On June 16, 2006, Mike was doing what he loves most in the world~training a race horse! One minute, friends saw him go by at a full gallop. Thirty minutes later, he was found unconscious and barely breathing. Mike endured an emergency helicopter ride to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit where doctors determined he had suffered a severe brain injury and was placed in ICU in critical condition. After three weeks, Mike was transferred to Kernan Rehabilitation Center, then Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation. He returned home in October ‘06 and continues to work on his recovery. We have experienced much hope and joy as we have witnessed Mike's miraculous journey towards recovery. Mike IS A MIRACLE (the exact words of his neurologist) and continues to surprise his health care providers. Mike faces each day with courage, faith and perseverance; his new job consisting of physical therapy and theraputic riding. Mike is currently undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and is experiencing great progress! FOR THOSE WHO HAVE OFFERED ASSISTANCE, A "MIKE REA RECOVERY RELIEF FUND" HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO HELP WITH MIKE'S MEDICAL AND DAILY NEEDS.

Mike Still Talking About His Party

Hello everyone. Yes, Mike is still talking about his surprise birthday party. He just can't get over all the people, gifts, cards, and that everyone told him how good he looks. Hey, I told him, "Your one good-looking guy who is amazing everyone with your recovery!!" We have continued to receive cards. You Barbaromaniacs have it going on. Really ya'll do. If you really only knew the good, positive, and just influences you have had on everyone. In every shape and form. The Carrot Posse is awesome too. We have the secret letter. So Nancy wanted me to let everyone know Alie and Rachel sent their pictures too and they are now up here on the photo album. We still have Mother's camera to download but we will have to wait until I get it back from Nancy. Also the DVD (video) will be on here soon. Then also I will be able to take a picture of Mikey's room wall that now has three long strings of cards and I am starting on the fourth. I would have to say there is over 100 cards ya'll. Life is just great and so are each and everyone of you.

Mike is missing Mother a lot. But he is doing well. Still trying to walk real hard. He has had his wheelchair adjusted where the seat is lower and he can use his legs more. Like walking while sitting. He has had some more visitors that came today. Jimmy Connors and Terry visited at lunch time for awhile. And Tim Woolley came today. Mike was very excited to see all. A lot of people stopped by after the party also. You know now I can't remember them all but a real good friend Jan that works at the tack shop at Delaware Park. Their Buds. Cathy Anderson, Sally Goswell, a real nice lady with blonde hair that a think is a vet. Boy somebody is going to kill me. But since Mother has been gone I'm with Mike all day and evening. Before, Mother and I took shifts. So I am kinda tired you know. But it's way worth it. Tonight I took Rochelle, kids, and Mike all out to eat. I wanted steak, but so did Mikey. It was so good and Mike did very well out and about in a wheel chair and in a crowded steak house. Oh, it was Lone Star. We all hated the rain today. It is suppose to clear up by the afternoon. Well I am going to bed now. Again, everyone, words just can not express how Mike feels and we feel. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God Bless Everyone. I know you Barbaromanics have helped Barbaro. Just look at him and hear about him. Just like Mike.

WE BELIEVE IN MIRACLES
WE BELIEVE IN BARBARO
WE BELIEVE IN MIKE REA

I love the pics. Wow getting to see the family--I feel like I've gotten to know you all a little bit. It's a special thing you're doing. Sharing Mike and your whole family.

Alex is I think the most special person around. He has spent countless hours getting updates for all of us. Truly I don't know where I'd be without him.

I think its safe to say that both Mike and Barbaro are cut from the same cloth. They both have known fear and try everyday to rise above it. They both have known pain and yet persevere. And undoubtedly both have known frustration since May and yet both persevere everyday.

This makes Mike very special in my book. I liked that pic--the one about Courage.

Mike you so lucky to have the family you do. What beautiful children you have. I can see the love all of you have for each other.

I think what I liked best was the pics of the PT's. My sis is one. Yet, I've never seen her at work. Now I can see what she does a little bit.

Thank you one and all for sharing your family and those wonderful pics.
