On June 16, 2006, Mike was doing what he loves most in the world~training a race horse! One minute, friends saw him go by at a full gallop. Thirty minutes later, he was found unconscious and barely breathing. Mike endured an emergency helicopter ride to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit where doctors determined he had suffered a severe brain injury and was placed in ICU in critical condition. After three weeks, Mike was transferred to Kernan Rehabilitation Center, then Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation. He returned home in October ‘06 and continues to work on his recovery. We have experienced much hope and joy as we have witnessed Mike's miraculous journey towards recovery. Mike IS A MIRACLE (the exact words of his neurologist) and continues to surprise his health care providers. Mike faces each day with courage, faith and perseverance; his new job consisting of physical therapy and theraputic riding. Mike is currently undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and is experiencing great progress! FOR THOSE WHO HAVE OFFERED ASSISTANCE, A "MIKE REA RECOVERY RELIEF FUND" HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO HELP WITH MIKE'S MEDICAL AND DAILY NEEDS.

Good Evening Everyone

Well today has been a fairly good day. My mother went there this morning and Mike told her some disturbing news. Now remember he has never told us anything of this sort before and I will be checking into this matter very deeply. It has to do with some nursing care during the late night hours and early morning hours. But all and all today he did all his therapies and ate all three of his meals and received an A+. I forgot to mention that his good friend Gary visited yesterday. Gary was saying some little jokes and Mike was grinning from ear and ear. He was getting what Gary was saying. Today another good friend visited, Bruce. Mike showed him that he could pull up his right leg and stand on both. Mike remains on the neuro scale at level 4. But like I said before I really feel he is between level 4 and 5. I left Mike tonight asleep. He appeared very peaceful and that he was sleeping well. So tomorrow will be another day and another step in his recovery. Thank you again for all the prayers and messages. Also for all the donations. The raffle is just around the corner for the Red Mustang. I'm getting so excited about it. I will write more tomorrow. Good night and may God bless us all.

Hello to Mike and family. Visting your news from the Barbaro updates at Tim' site. Good to hear things are moving along, and that Mike has had a nice few days of visitors. Hang in there with the ups and downs, it's likely part of the healing track. We are thinking of you all and sending our prayers for his recovery ahead of schedule -- all the best from Saratoga.
