On June 16, 2006, Mike was doing what he loves most in the world~training a race horse! One minute, friends saw him go by at a full gallop. Thirty minutes later, he was found unconscious and barely breathing. Mike endured an emergency helicopter ride to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit where doctors determined he had suffered a severe brain injury and was placed in ICU in critical condition. After three weeks, Mike was transferred to Kernan Rehabilitation Center, then Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation. He returned home in October ‘06 and continues to work on his recovery. We have experienced much hope and joy as we have witnessed Mike's miraculous journey towards recovery. Mike IS A MIRACLE (the exact words of his neurologist) and continues to surprise his health care providers. Mike faces each day with courage, faith and perseverance; his new job consisting of physical therapy and theraputic riding. Mike is currently undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and is experiencing great progress! FOR THOSE WHO HAVE OFFERED ASSISTANCE, A "MIKE REA RECOVERY RELIEF FUND" HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO HELP WITH MIKE'S MEDICAL AND DAILY NEEDS.

Is It Broke Yet?!?

Sheilagh Barndollar and I speak every few days to bring each other up to date on the raffle. You know, to keep the number of purchases straight between PayPal, direct purchases and the various tracks selling tickets. Sheilagh is a longtime friend of Mike's, a trainer at Fair Hill and the mastermind behind this awesome avenue of bringing financial assistance to Mike and family. So....Sheilagh is sharing Mike's story with everyone she sees and carries tickets with her wherever she goes. This is serious right? We have a goal and we WILL meet it....sell 400 tickets before the July 31st drawing....and we're comparing numbers and making sure everyone is represented with a ticket number and I'm taking notes and working on a spreadsheet, and Sheilagh tells me she has one problem she keeps running into.....I stop everything....hold my breath and wait....another problem?what is it?what can we do about it?and then she tells me....When she approaches some people and shares Mike's situation and tells them about raffling a mustang.....she keeps getting asked "It is broke yet?" And then...she has to explain....we're offering a FORD mustang, a car, not a wild mustang! I love it...I laugh, deep, out loud and it feels o' soooo good! Thanks Sheilagh...we all needed that!
